We are getting slightly longer days but it's getting colder - brrh! Our thoughts turn to warming but healthy foods. Our local cook Katherine bakes frozen vegetarian pies & hotpots made with ingredients from the shop. Spicy lentil shepherd’s pie and hot pot are very popular. Katherine is planning to expand her range so watch this space!
This week we have fresh organic beef and chicken in the shop. Why not try Japanese chicken curry? It's quick and easy and we have all the ingredients in the shop except green beans but you can substitute them with courgettes, kale or cabbage. Another exotic but easy dish is Moroccan-style chicken casserole. Beef casserole with dumplings is another warming dish and a way of incorporating all those lovely root vegetables!
Finally a reminder that we have some lovely flavoured organic staffordshire cheeses made with unpasteurised milk - wild garlic, oak smoked, chives, mixed herbs and crushed black pepper. We also have a sheep's cheese.
Have a good week - wrap up and keep warm!

Squashes etc!

What lovely sunny but crisp days and we are getting a few more minutes of daylight each day!
In the shop we have just had a delivery of brightly coloured squashes - will put a picture up on our facebook page soon!
Here's
a recipe for warm roasted squash and puy lentil salad. It is filling, low-fat and contains all of your five-a-day!
Also on our facebook page we've posted a link to an article about how celebrity chefs like Jamie Oliver and Nigella Lawson are encouraging a “food revolution” among younger people!

Happy New Year

A Happy New Year from everyone at the Organic Farm Shop! Have you made any New Year resolutions? What has 2012 got in store for us?
My sister recommends a book she is reading called Stuffed & Starved by Raj Patel - it helps you to understand the politics of food. Food for thought!
As I am writing this baskets are blowing around outside the shop and my thoughts turn to warming soups! We have just had a delivery of local organic celeriac and here's a lovely recipe for celeriac soup.

Christmas is approaching

We're having winter weather now. It was so windy on Saturday night - hope you were all ok! Can't believe that 2 weeks ago my sister was sitting outside having a coffee in sunny London.
We're in need of warming soups made from all the lovely winter vegetables we have in the shop.
How time is flying - it's nearly the end of November and Christmas isn't far off! We have lovely fresh organic chestnuts in the shop - they can be roasted or made into chestnut stuffing and popped in the freezer. Here's a recipe for apricot and chestnut stuffing.
