May bank holiday

What a bank holiday weekend! Fantastic weather and the Tour de Yorkshire!
I managed a lovely early morning trip to the beach with my grandson. Our gardens don't quite know what's hit them. One minute it was winter and then spring and summer have rolled into one.

We have delicious organic british asparagus in the shop. The season is very short so do come and treat yourselves. We also have very tasty large plum tomatoes on the vine - feedback from a very happy customer!

For a full list of what's in the shop see our organic fruit and vegetable price guide.

In the meat/fish department we will have fresh organic: bacon, smoked salmon; chicken: whole, thigh fillets, sausages and burgers; beef mince.

Have a good week!

Hottest London Marathon on record

Following on from our last blog - what a week! Amazing weather! The London Marathon was the hottest on record. Now back to normal April weather.
I'm getting the house ready for the return of my son and family. The cat won't know what's happening with a young person chasing after her!
My sisters seem to be very busy sending each other old family photos for a Sleightholme cousin get-together in Guildford. I think this has been sparked off by the 100th anniversary of the brutal battle of Passchendaele, in which we very sadly lost two great uncles.

Back to the shop - I've just read an article about how good fermented food is for you. We sell a selection: kombucha, a refreshing and deliciously wild fermented beverage, ginger and turmeric kombucha, red sauerkraut and more besides. Do come and browse.

For a full list of what's in the shop see our organic fruit and vegetable price guide.

In the meat/fish department we will have fresh organic: bacon, cooked ham and smoked salmon.

Have a good week.

April showers

Not wonderful weather for the Easter weekend. It picked up yesterday with cheering sunshine but we're now back to showers and easterly winds. As I drive through the villages on my way home it lifts my heart to see all the daffodils. No wonder Wordsworth wrote about them! I also love the spring flowers in Eastgate Square and at the bottom of the main street.

In the shop this week we have fresh asparagus from Italy. It's not in season for long and is delicious steamed and served with olive oil or a dab of butter. We also have lovely cauliflowers - why not try this delicious warming cauliflower soup by one of our famous local chefs!

For a full list of what's in the shop see our organic fruit and vegetable price guide.

In the meat/fish department we will have fresh organic: beef mince; leg of lamb; pork sausages; bacon, cooked ham and smoked salmon.

Just to let you know that Dr Christopher Hertzog will be in the shop on Wednesday 18th April to discuss our very popular health care supplements and answer any queries you may have.

I'm sure a lot of you are still making warming stews and casseroles and so we've got parsnips and turnips in the shop this week.
For a change why not try caramelised turnips as a side dish?

Goodbye Beast from the East!

I'm sure we're all pleased to see the back of the Beast from the East. Just when we thought Spring was here we have another warning of snow for the weekend - brrr!
I hope all the mothers out there were treated to a nice day yesterday. My sister in London went out with a group of female friends to the chef Ottolenghi's first restaurant in Islington and she said the food was delicious.
Here is a very tasty cauliflower soup by the great man himself. Soups are so warming and healthy.

For a full list of what's in the shop this week see our organic fruit and vegetable price guide.

In the meat/fish department we will have fresh organic: beef: mince & braising steak, chicken, bacon, cooked ham and smoked salmon. We also have organic frozen: lamb, pork, salmon and chicken: whole & sausages.
